Photography captures the world, and in this context, my world sees a portrait, in color and digital, light, and pose. As light travels, forms take shape, the light “sculpts”, and reveals a visual message - light surrounds the portrait, highlighting facial expression - a glimmer of light reflects off an eye or makes a linear shadow across a face. My compositions are purposely dramatic, while the poses are freely orchestrated by the person in front of my camera - a visual “call and response” - click, the person moves, I move. The resulting digital impression informs and guides the photographic process as we move forward. I spend a good deal of time with each person. My working method is collaborative. Each subject has agency in regard to how they choose to be represented.

In light of COVID-19, this portrait collaboration abruptly ended. As the world self-isolates at home, I have been making self-portraits. Using the self-timer on my camera, as both author and subject. I search for the light within the confines of my space, and slowly self-consciousness is giving way to an appreciation of acceptance, and the beautiful fact of being alive.
